Athens Regional Birthing Center offers a full array of services for the expectant parents and new family, including free 6 week Childbirth Preparation Classes and a monthly maternity newsletter. Free lactation counseling available for mothers who want to breastfeed.
Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation
The Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center offers a comprehensive program to help patients who have had a cardiac event or are at risk for cardiovascular disease. The facility is fully equipped to offer a monitored exercise program prescribed by your physician to improve cardiovascular functions. The program also promotes behavior modifications through stress management, dietary changes, and smoking cessation classes. Diabetes Center
The Athens Regional Diabetes Center promotes positive health and well being to persons with diabetes and their families. In 1999, the Center's self-management education program was awarded recognition from the American Diabetes Association. The award assures the public that the diabetes education program, an essential component of effective diabetes management, meets rigorous ADA standards. The Center Coordinator is a Certified Diabetes Educator committed to teaching the importance of self-care to prevent and minimize complications of the disease. The Diabetes Center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Group classes are offered monthly and individual consultation is available upon referral by a physician. Diagnostic Care Center
The Diagnostic Care Center offers several types of scope testing all under the same roof. The variety of testing services and the convenience of the central location enable physicians to provide prompt diagnoses of possible disease conditions. The Center may be contacted by calling (423) 744-3388.
Oncology/Infusion Services
Athens Regional Medical Center offers outpatient chemotherapy and immunotherapy for patients diagnosed with cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, and Crohn's Disease. Oncology Clinic is held each Wednesday by Dr. Lawrence Nagle, a physician who specializes in oncology. For information, call (423) 744-3153.
Orthopedic Rehabilitation
Athens Regional Rehabilitation Center serves outpatients at a freestanding facility located at 929 Decatur Pike in Athens. The Center treats patients recovering from surgery, illness or disease,those requiring pain management, and rehabilitation for sports injuries. The Rehab Center also offers Occupational and Speech Therapy to help victims of stroke or trauma rebuild fine motor skills needed for activities of daily living. Senior Friends
Athens Regional Medical Center's Chapter of Senior Friends is associated with the National Association of Senior Friends. The Athens Chapter offers an array of healthy living programs, screenings, and discounts all designed for adults 50 and over. Sleep Lab
The Sleep Lab is the only one of its kind in McMinn/Meigs/Monroe County area. The Lab focuses on finding problems causing sleep deprivation and helps patients get a better night's sleep. Patients come to the Sleep Lab and follow normal bedtime patterns. Small electrodes are placed on the scalp to measure brain waves and sleep patterns. Patients are monitored throughout the night by a Registered Respiratory Therapist specializing in sleep disorder studies. Physician referral is required. Trauma Center
The Emergency Dept. at Athens Regional Medical Center has been designated a Level III Trauma Center by the TN Board of Health Care Facilities. This designations helps to ensure the optimal level of care for the trauma patient in the most important "first hour" following an injury. Once activated, the trauma team that includes a surgeon/team leader, ER physician, trauma coordinator, nurses, and all ancillary services, is ready to go within 25 minutes of notification.
